Collage For Carers

Online and In-Person Workshops

October Exhibition

Are you a carer living in the Northern Beaches?

Join us for a series of fun and interactive workshops to explore creative practice as a tool for self-care, connection and community building.

Facilitated by Angie Cass, a collage artist and educator at Hazelhurst Art Gallery, and Nicole Buckland, a collage artist and occupational therapist, this series of four workshops will provide the opportunity to learn traditional and contemporary collage techniques and meet other carers in a safe, friendly space.

In each session you will work at your own pace to develop collage techniques and your own creative style. All participants are also invited to submit work for an exhibition in celebration of Carer’s Week in October, at Sugar House Studios in Brookvale.

You are invited to attend as many workshops as you wish (subject to availability)

All workshops are free of charge, and participants will be kept in the loop with online resources. If you would like to participate but are unable to attend the dates above, let us know. We may add additional sessions dependent on interest.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid care and support to family members or friends who have a disability, mental illness, terminal illness, alcohol or drug issue, or who are frail aged (Carers Australia)

If you have any questions about these workshops, please feel free to contact Nicole at info@sugarhousestudios.com.au or fill out this contact form.

Opening Night 17th October, 6pm-8pm

Workshop One

Workshop one took place on 17th of March over Zoom.

Participants scavenged items from around the house to make beautiful works of art.

If you would like to have a try making your own collage, all you need is a pair of scissors and some glue. Watch the short video below and use the list for ideas of where to scavenge materials

Where to find materials to make your collage

There is no need to spend money, once you start looking you’ll see potential collage materials everywhere (the recycling bin is often a fab place to start).

A few ideas of materials to collect:

-       Advertising flyers and postcards

-       Magazines and newspapers

-       Catalogues

-       Photographs

-       Food and product packaging

-       Scraps of fabric

-       Old doodles and art

-       Aluminium foil, wax paper and cellophane

-       Ribbon and twine

Just keep an eye out for colours, textures and images that grab your eye.
